About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineerto lead the software engineering development process for our products from early stages through to production environments. The role will require close collaboration with DataStream’s product manager, data scientists, data engineers, and insurance brokers in shaping our products to meet client needs. This is primarily a management and architect role rather than technical leadership, but you will be expected to write and review code on a regular basis. We are open to this position being remote in the U.S.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and build of the software systems needed for DataStream’s products
  • Line management of a growing team of talented software and data engineers
  • Working with Product Managers and other stakeholders to keep teams focused on relevant product priorities
  • Designing, implementing, and managing applications that deliver data science products to customers
  • Recruitment and on-boarding of new engineers
  • Working with the group engineering leadership on developing and monitoring standards & practices for all engineering teams
  • Working with our cross-functional teams to understand how best to deliver our products
  • Building applications that combine a broad range of data sets
  • Developing tools with our data engineering team to support our data-heavy workflows
  • Continually evaluating and improving systems in production
  • Keeping up to date with the latest tools, methods, & technologies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in a technical degree, with specializations related to computer science preferred
  • 4+ years of experience managing engineering teams
  • Experience of managing a growing team of engineers, preferably in a cross-functional product environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of best-practices for building secure & scalable cloud-based systems
  • Infrastructure management and automation with tools like Ansible and Terraform
  • Hands-on experience with Python for data processing and application development (Django, Flask, FastAPI, Pandas, SQLAlchemy, etc.)
  • Exposure to working with large, complex, and messy data sets
  • Working in an agile software development environment (JIRA)
  • Cloud Platforms
  • Modern data science platforms (Databricks Delta Lake, etc.)
  • Experience being comfortable with the design and technical selection decisions
  • You take the initiative and are fully accountable for your work but will ask for help as needed
  • You demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You can balance high-level strategy and tactical execution
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity, uncertainty, and a rapidly evolving business landscape
