NDDOT Starting Salary:$4,264 with up to a 5% increase after probation*

  • Underfilling at the Construction Technician III level may be considered, salary dependent on experience

Summary of Work

Construction Administration:

  • Coordinate day to day activities on various construction projects with contractors and keep engineer in charge informed of all activities.
  • Supervise the work performed and ensure all work is completed accurately.
  • Verify all documents are correct and organized from start of project to finish.
  • Assist with or complete training of NDDOT construction staff.

Construction Inspection, Materials Testing and Survey:

  • Lead inspector on construction projects, prepare daily reports
  • Supervise or perform all required materials tests.
  • Supervise or perform all required preliminary surveying duties.

Design Work:

  • Assist project engineers in plan preparation.
  • Assist project engineers and prepare plan sheets, project specifications, calculate or verify plan quantities and estimate project costs.
  • Keep the engineer in charge informed of all activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires six years’ work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Requires a valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license in order to travel to project locations.
  • Construction Technician III – Requires four years’ work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.

Currently hold or will obtain, within the first six months of employment, a North Dakota Transportation Technician Qualified Program (NDTTQP) Level III tester certification and maintain it in the following areas:

Aggregates: Sampling Aggregate ND T 2, Sieve Analysis of Fine and Coarse Aggregate ND T 27 & ND T 11, Specific Gravity Fine ND T 84, Specific Gravity Coarse ND T 85, Liquid Limit ND T 89, Plastic Limit ND T 90, Sample Reduction ND T 248, Total Moisture Content of aggregate ND T 255, Shale, Hard Iron Oxide (NDDOT), Lightweight Pieces in Aggregate ND T 113, Fine Aggregate Angularity ND T 304 Method A, Flat or Elongated Particles in Coarse Aggregate D T 4791, Fractured Particles in Coarse Aggregate (NDDOT), Sand Equivalent ND T 176, Moisture Content of Aggregates Using the Microwave Method ND T 4643

Applicants should be comfortable working outdoors and in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces; traffic and machinery hazards may be present or occur, safety training provided; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds; physical mobility, agility, and mental alertness compatible with an office setting and a construction project or maintenance/shop setting; extended periods of standing, stairs, up and down, exposure to noise, chemicals, dust, smoke and fumes. Ability to work closely with people; some contact with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and others; ability to function with minimal supervision.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check and driving records check.
