JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for taking the data provided by the medical coders and using it to compile and submit claims to insurance companies and then subsequently bill patients

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate codes into insurance companies’ preferred coding system
  • Verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors
  • Prepare the appropriate claims documents required by each insurer
  • Daily posting of a variety of health service charges to patients’ accounts per payer
  • Preparing billing adjustments and/or rebilling
  • Preparing and maintaining daily productivity reports
  • Entering on a timely basis all charges, payments, credits, and adjustments by payer
  • Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper
  • Answers questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies
  • Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints
  • Prepares, reviews and sends patient statements
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations

Requirements:

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training

  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize when needed.

  • Demonstrates ability to work in a regulatory climate that includes oversight of state and federal entities, payer contracts etc.
  • Possesses ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Possesses genuine respect for others and acceptance of their individual social and cultural traits.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
  • Able to travel and attend professional meetings, conferences, trainings and clinic sites.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to cooperate while working with others in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency and/or ability to expand knowledge of department specific key performance indicators. This includes interrupting data and ability to generate, as well, share self-service reports. In addition, the ability use reports/data to drive decision making.

  • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires a full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
